Chapter & Verse privacy policy

Last updated 25 October 2026

Chapter & Verse is a Bible reading and study app for iPhone and iPad, made by Daniel Young. This page says what the app does with your information. The short version: I don't run a server for Chapter & Verse, I don't have your data, and nothing in the app tracks you.

What stays with you

Your notes, handwritten pages, photos you add to notes, highlights, underlines, bookmarks, prayer points, reading progress and settings are stored on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, Chapter & Verse also keeps them in your private iCloud storage so they appear on your other devices. That storage belongs to your Apple account. I can't see it or get into it.

What Chapter & Verse asks the internet for

Chapter & Verse downloads Bible text and word definitions when you read or study. These requests go to other services, not to me:

Like any website or service, these providers can see your IP address when your device contacts them. Chapter & Verse doesn't send them your name, your notes, your prayers or an account, because Chapter & Verse has no accounts. Each service has its own privacy policy.

Sharing prayer points

If you share a prayer point, Chapter & Verse uses Apple's iCloud sharing. The people you invite can see that prayer point, who shared it, who else is in the group, and who marked it complete. They see the name Apple shows for each person's iCloud account. You can stop sharing at any time. Anything you haven't shared stays private.

Camera, photos and handwriting

Chapter & Verse asks for the camera only when you add a photo to a note. Photos you pick from your library or Files are copied into the note. The camera and photos are used for nothing else. When you write by hand with the Apple Pencil, the words are read on your device using Apple's text recognition. The handwriting doesn't leave your device, except as part of your notes in your own iCloud.

Notifications and widgets

Prayer and reading reminders are scheduled on your device. They don't go through a server. The Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets show the verse of the day and your streaks, using data kept on your device.

Spotlight and Shortcuts

Chapter & Verse lets iOS index the titles and text of your notes so you can find them in Spotlight and use them in Shortcuts. That index stays on your device and is handled by Apple.

What Chapter & Verse doesn't do

Deleting your data

Delete a note, highlight, bookmark or prayer point in the app and it is removed from your devices and from your iCloud. Deleting Chapter & Verse from a device removes the data stored on that device. To remove everything from iCloud as well, go to Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, Manage Account Storage, and delete Chapter & Verse's data.

Children

Chapter & Verse doesn't collect personal information from anyone, children included.

Changes to this policy

If the app starts doing something new with your information, I'll update this page and the date at the top before the change reaches you.
